Buzzin’ around.

The Back Story.

I love this dress. And it was only 45L at Jack Spoon, a little shop I’d never heard of before until browsing through the blogs the other day and spotted some gift leggings that I figured I might as well have. So off I popped, and there was this dress.

It’s paired here with stockings that I cobbled together using some random free fishnets with some random free modifiable sheer stockings that I ‘colorized’. I was hoping to find something more funky in Etoile’s inventory that wouldn’t be all matchy-matchy and at the same time not ridiculously distracting from the dress, but she has what she has, and that’s just the way it falls out sometimes.

On Etoile’s head is a bit of swag from Bizarre Hair promoting the Crazy Hair Hunt going on this month. If you stay calm, the bees will just go about their business and not care about you. Just don’t stray too far from one spot, or they won’t find their way home, and we have to help the honey bees all we can these days.

The only downside to this dress is that it’s not mesh, and unfortunate things happen to the backside when Etoile stands in certain positions. The right butt-hider alpha might help that, though.

Getting away from the noise in Kowloon.

[location: kowloon]

The Back Story.

I decided to get away from it all in a far off land (far off to me, anyway). The shape drama on SL is getting craaaazy, peoples (see also Alicia Chenaux’s pithy “Stop it” piece). Am I sensing a ground swell of consumer revolt against the grump-face pony-rider shape? A final smack down before the demise of a fad?

Whatever it might be, remember folks, that these avatars we play around with are not our corporeal bodies. They aren’t even as materially substantive as a doll that you can hold in your hands, for that matter.

I just recalled an incident from when I was five years old. A neighbor boy made fun of the way one of my dollies looked, and I whacked him upside the head with a pointy metal thing. He had to get stitches. I got grounded. Over a damn doll.

Yeah. Dumb. But I was five and had skin about as thick as nanofilm.

Feeling Drowsy

The Back Story.

I’ve been throwing on this and that over the past several days, trying to wrap my head around why I bother. I bother, I guess, because everyone has to play at some point or another. i’m not sure I can go much deeper into it than to explain that I like to play. I like doll houses and I like stylin my virtual representation of ego.

So there. That’s about it. And here she is in a hunt item that is looking way hipper than a lot of hunt looks can manage. Nice job Fabienne Bolissima Couture.

Feeling all gray and cozy and stuff

[location: curio shop, new toulouse jardin]

The Back Story.

I seem to be stuck on gray. I’m also cold and feel like curling up with books in front of a fire or hanging out at some boho coffee shop being all boho and stuff.

And that’s about all there is to say about that.

Liver Noir.

[location: 1920s Berlin Project] [42/52 weeks of color]

The Back Story.
I had a pretty good idea of where I wanted to go with this from the start. Veering rather drastically off from the direction of my last challenge response, this “liver” color pulled me into the sepia-toned world of the 1930’s with a strong nod to the film noir era to come. No happy day-glo here, folks. This is Berlin, circa 1930, and happy, happy, joy, joy ist einfach nicht in ordnung.

I love this aesthetic, though. This is far more me than the festive colors we’ve been having lately. I decided to add just a little popette of color in the yellow shoes with red soles and the yellow beads. A nice Liz Arden red or a rich coral would work particularly well, too, but I liked the hint of jaundice suggested by the yellow.

The sim is one of my favs, the 1920s Berlin Project. Put on your era-appropriate duds and head over there for a look-see. It struck the right tone for the direction I decided to go this week.
